Ecumenical Prayer: every year there are one or two ecumenical gatherings at the Cathedral. These are normally prayer services grounded in scripture; need for readers, cantors, psalmists, hospitality ministers, and preparing and serving food at social that follows.

Evening Prayer and Benediction: Evening Prayer (Liturgy of the Hours) within Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction on Sundays during Advent and Christmas, Lent and Easter seasons at 6:30 P.M.; need for reader, psalmist, cantor, and instrumentalists.

Charismatic Prayer Group: Monday evenings, 7:00 P.M. in Cathedral; songs and prayers of praise; seeking healing through the Holy Spirit; evangelical focus going out and sharing the good news of our faith; need for musicians and those to commit to requested prayer.

Miraculous Medal Novena: Monday mornings, normally at 7:45 A.M., prayed before the Blessed Mother Chapel. Participants always welcome.

Rosary for Life: Wednesday evening at 6:00 P.M. in Cathedral; fifteen decades prayed for respect for the dignity of life at all stages. Participants always welcome.

Nocturnal Adoration: every First Friday of the month at different churches in greater Altoona, 8:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M.; particular church for the month is announced in the Cathedral bulletin.

Prayer Partners: at the beginning of Advent and Lent, parishioners given opportunity to sign up to become a Prayer Partner with another individual or family; additionally, during Lent/Easter seasons, Prayer Partner given names of youth/adult candidates for Easter Sacraments; in addition to prayer, Prayer Partners invited to send a card or visit during the Christmas and Easter seasons.

Book of Petitions: all welcome to write their particular intentions in the Book of Petitions found in the center aisle before every Mass; intentions part of General Intercessions.

Breaking Open the Word: group gathers weekly to pray and discuss the Sunday scripture readings for Mass during the season of Lent, 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. in Seton Suite.

Special Processions: in Advent volunteers carry Advent Wreath Candles in opening procession at Mass; Holy Thursday Mass, Thanksgiving Day Mass, First Communion Mass, and Mass on Parish Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, banner carriers needed. At May Crowning, participants invited to bring up flowers; on Thanksgiving Day, participants invited to bring up non-perishable food items and paper products in offertory procession.

September 11th Memorial: Blue and White Mass on weekend closest to September 11th in Cathedral; city police and fire department, EMTS along with doctors and nurses; social follows Knights of Columbus Hall on Twelfth Avenue.

Name Your Favorite Saints: All Saints Day, November 1, everyone invited to place name(s) of favorite saint in book on stand in center aisle; these names become part of the sung Litany of Saints in the opening procession at Mass.

Cathedral Parishioners are invited to participate in the numerous ministries of our faith community. By baptism we have been called to be stewards of God’s gifts to us.
